NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang emphasized that global collaboration in technology will persist, even if the second Trump administration strengthens export controls on advanced computing products. Speaking in Hong Kong on the 23rd, Huang highlighted the importance of global partnerships in advancing science and technology.
"Math and science have always been the foundation of social and scientific progress," Huang said during a talk at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), where he received an honorary doctorate in engineering. "This collaboration will continue moving forward," he added.
Balancing Innovation and Regulation
Huang's remarks come amid speculation that the next Trump administration could intensify export restrictions on advanced technology to China.
During his first term, Trump implemented policies limiting the sale of cutting-edge technologies to China, citing national security concerns—a stance that has continued under President Biden. As a result, NVIDIA, which dominates approximately 90% of the global AI chip market, has been unable to sell its latest AI chips in China, forcing the company to adjust its product offerings.
Huang acknowledged the uncertainty of U.S. policy, stating, "We don't know what will happen under the new administration, but we will comply with laws and policies while continuing to advance technology and support our global customers."
The Dawn of the AI Era
Huang described the current moment as "the start of the AI era," calling it "a new age of computing that will impact every industry and field of science." He emphasized that the entire world is standing at a new starting line as industries are being redefined and reimagined.
"AI gives us tools to tackle challenges that once seemed impossible," Huang said. He explained that AI’s goal isn’t just training models but enabling reasoning—finding innovative solutions such as carbon capture methods, advanced wind turbine designs, or new materials for energy storage.
China's Role in AI Development
Huang praised China’s contributions to AI, highlighting the critical role of HKUST in promoting open scientific research. "HKUST is playing an important role in advancing global AI development," he said.
He reiterated the importance of global cooperation, emphasizing that the transformative power of AI must transcend borders to benefit humanity as a whole.
Shaping the Future as a Market Leader
As the leading company in the global AI chip market, NVIDIA remains committed to pushing technological boundaries while navigating the challenges of regulatory compliance.
Huang’s optimistic vision portrays AI as more than just a technological advancement—it is a game-changing tool capable of solving some of the most complex challenges of our time. His message is clear: "The AI era has only just begun."
